My name is Seema Durgapal Sharma Holland. I was born in Houston, Texas but I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and have been here since. I have bounced around the different sides of the bay but currently reside where I grew up as a stay at home mom to my 3 sons. I never gave birth to a daughter I wanted to name Seemaya, so named my business this instead.
The concept of Maya and the illusion of life was introduced to me at a young age. My name's meaning of being the "horizon", the illusion of a boundary between earth and the sky. Our energy has always been here and will always be here. This life is a temporary and beautiful illusion -- meant to spend exploring your unique talents while being your highest self.
Durgapal translates to "keeper of Durga's temple" -- Durga is a Hindu mother-warrior goddess. I have always been drawn to this goddess with unlimited talents and "weapons" to conquer any and all kinds of problems. The temple in my mom's home town of Dugalkhola in Uttrakhand India has one of the few priestesses residing over a Hindu temple (most have men).
What gifts do you bring to Mother Earth and
our human community?
As an only child in the only immigrant family members in the US, my parents found solace in the Desi community they were able to find in the Bay Area in the 90s. We would drive 40 minutes to Fremont to go to the Indian grocery store, and she would buy me henna cones to practice with at home. I went to elementary school with other kids asking "why did you draw all over your hands with marker?" I have always loved the changing color the deep rust color of the henna dye.
I grew up with a very dark brown swimmer tan, and my family would complain of my complexions' effect on henna's look on my skin -- I learned as I got older that good henna will stain any skin. In my 20s I discovered Jagua, a Brazilian fruit that creates a beautiful blue-grey color on the skin. Since then I have worked on my henna craft; I now make my own cones as well as provide services to all occasions and all skin tones.
Stereotypically, Americans notoriously hate math. Stereotypically, "Indians" are good at math.
Personally, the logic and puzzles in math have always provided me with great comfort.
As a graduate of UC Berkeley's math program and with 10 years of experience teaching math in public schools, I have learned that math education is very political and intentional in this country. I feel it is set up to keep the people ignorant of their own minds abilities so they don't know how to think critically or problem solve and remain stuck in a prison industrial complex.
Kids and babies are naturally logical; math is about preservation of this logic. I have taught and currently tutor everything between Pre-Algebra to college level Calculus and Statistics.
Fibonacci's sequence recursively adds the pervious 2 numbers: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34 etc. Somehow the total number of spirals in a sunflower adds up to any one of these numbers in Fibonnaci's sequence. Matemateical efficiency is implicitly beautiful.
आयुर्वेद Ayurveda - "the Science of life"
My mom healed herself and our family with home remedies handed down for generations. Now as a parent of 3 wonderful young boys, I use homemade herbal products for as many things as I can, and incorporate tools from an Ayurvedic lifestyle to help my children become healthy versions of their full potentials. I am currently studying to become a certified Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor and sell herbal products.
